The final products attract the audience in an informal way because if the slang and overall manner of address. This creates a connection between the reader and the magazine, which is vital when attracting the perspective buyer. For this to work, the overall style has to be consistent so the reader does not feel confused between formal and informal articles. Readers would want to be associated with this magazine because it is an alternative magazine, and much like the target audience, stands out from the crowd. The main colour of the final pieces is blue. This creates a mellow tone but accompanies the later reds and yellows. The masthead is different and ‘out of the ordinary’ which contrasts with the blue to stand out. All of these aspects will attract or address the audience because they are not normal and fit in with the target audience’s psychographical classification of individualists.
Audience research was a main part of this project because it helped to identify the aspects they would like to see in a magazine. Firstly, an online questionnaire was available for anyone to take, to get a better idea of how the target age group think. After analysing these results, I was given a faint idea of what they would like to see in a magazine, along with their hobbies and personal habits. The next questionnaire available was more specific and only available to people invited to take part. The results are on blogger. After this research, it was possible to create a magazine aimed at a more selective audience. The results helped to attract the audience because the last questionnaire was aimed at them specifically.
Throughout the designing process, many smaller questionnaires helped to decide on choices such as colour scheme, main images, double page spread article and bands to include. After creating the products, the target audience analysed and criticized the three items. Feedback included positive points on all images used because they felt a connection with the model, were intrigued and wanted to know more and felt they matched the pull quotes and annotations.
The images used on the main cover are suggestive because they are simple yet mysterious. This should appeal highly to my target audience because they are all individualists, each with a different view on the world. The use of 'we' in the cover line creates a relationship with the audience because it us already involving them. It suggests the magazine wants to agree with the audience, on their opinions. The use of a question mark connotes a rhetorical question but gives the readers something to think about. The exclamation mark shows enthusiasm and excitement. When reading this cover line, the exclamation mark suggests to read it in a different voice, even if not out loud. It creates a sense of thrill, even though the cover line itself is not to exciting.
"Manner" not "manor" (that's a big house). In this section you need to show how your front cover would be attractive to your target audience by discussing for example the cover lines and the main photo. Then you should look at your use of language in a little bit more detail showing for example how you have tried to establish a relationship with your reader. Think about the words you have used, your use of second person pronouns to directly address the reader, your use of punctuation such as exclamation marks which indicate excitement. What sort of relationship does your writing try to create with the reader? Is the magazine trying to be a sort of best friend? Or an authority? Try to explain.
